David D. West

David is originally from Muncie, Indiana but moved to Tucson with his family as a child in 1951. He attended Tucson public schools beginning in fourth grade and graduated from Amphitheater High School.

He attended the University of Arizona receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in accounting in 1967 and a juris doctorate degree in law in 19790. He was admitted to the Arizona State Bar in September of 1970 and has practiced in Arizona since then.

He began his legal career in general practice which evolved into business legal issues and ultimately into estate planning and related matters. As you can see from the date he was admitted in 1970, he has been practicing for over 53 years. At this time he is moving into retirement and anticipates being totally retired in the near future.

His career high point was working with attorney Leonard Karp in Van Loan v VanLoan, the Arizona Supreme Court decision which first established community property rights in military retirement benefits prior to the time the right to receive benefits began.

David has been a dedicated volunteer in the community, with Southern Arizona Legal Aid and Step Up to Justice as well as other organizations outside the practice of law.

David is recently widowed after 57 years of marriage. He has two daughters and four grandchildren. He is active in his local church, playing guitar and electric bass with the Praise Team. He also sings in two quartets. He enjoys reading. He seeks inspiration from historical figures such as Mother Teresa and Abraham Lincoln but also from familial members such as his father and grandfather (both now deceased).
